Resume preparation
In most cases, your resume is the first impression you make on a potential employer. Therefore, it pays to spend the time to make sure your resume properly and clearly highlights your skills and experience, and avoids common mistakes that can hurt your chances of getting an interview. Here are some resume tips on how we can help you quickly find your dream job in Europe:
Think like an employer
The first and most important step is to consider the perspective of the potential employer who will be reading your resume. Your goal is not to create a work of art or literature, but to ensure that the resume is clear, concise, and meaningful. You have a limited amount of time to catch the attention of a decision maker, so you should strive to keep your resume as concise and focused as possible. We would suggest one or two pages; three at most. It is advisable to include a brief summary section in your resume early on that clearly outlines your key skills and accomplishments to an employer.
Think about the essentials
There are certain categories of information that are essential to include in your resume: Education, qualifications, training, and work history are the obvious categories. However, it is surprising how many people do not include detailed contact information on their resumes. Make sure you provide a permanent email address.
In this region, it is common for resumes to include a photo, and this is largely a matter of personal preference. If you decide to take a photo, it should look very professional. Again, always consider the reaction of a potential employer.
Keep it simple
It can be very tempting to experiment extravagantly with your font and formatting using Microsoft Word. We strongly discourage innovations like Word Art and Sparkle Text on your resume. Avoid using tables and use bold, italic, and underlined type sparingly and only to emphasize key points. On a resume, neither text in bright colors nor the use of too many different fonts is recommended. This is an important aspect and one of the recommended CV tips in UAE.
Use your keywords
Keywords are important for two reasons: first, an employer often looks for specific terms in a resume; second, resumes are increasingly found through keyword searches in databases. What constitutes a keyword depends on your industry specialization and professional role. For example, if you are a finance professional with knowledge and experience in GAAP and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley), these are keywords to include in your resume. Using keywords, think about how your resume might be found.
Check and double check
Spelling and grammatical errors on your resume can have a very negative impact on potential employers. Don't just have a spell check, have a friend or relative proofread your resume. A fresh pair of eyes will often spot mistakes you missed. Finally, print your resume and go back to Step 1: Review your resume as if you were a prospective employer to ensure it is an effective marketing tool.
